Fleur Agema testifies on COVID-19 information gaps in Dutch Parliament

During testimony before the parliamentary inquiry committee into the COVID-19 pandemic, former PVV lawmaker Fleur Agema stated that the Dutch House of Representatives suffered from a significant information deficit during the early stages of the outbreak. Agema testified that insufficient information was provided to parliamentarians, which impacted their ability to make informed decisions on critical measures.

Agema specifically cited the ban on visitors to nursing homes as a “wrong decision” influenced by this lack of data. She noted that information regarding the spread of the virus among hospital staff was not shared with her, despite its relevance to the decision-making process. She also criticized Jaap van Dissel, then-chair of the Outbreak Management Team (OMT), regarding the flow of information.

Furthermore, Agema described the immense stress caused by the timing of document releases. She claimed that crucial documents regarding major decisions were often shared only late at night, sometimes hours before technical briefings or debates, leaving lawmakers with very little time to review complex materials.
