FLEX Global scholarship offers Romanian students exchange opportunities in the USA

Romanian high school students can apply for the Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) Global scholarship to spend one academic year studying in the United States. The program, which is open for applications until October 22, 2026, allows selected students to live with a host family, attend an American high school, and participate in community activities.

The scholarship covers round-trip transportation, school enrollment, housing with a host family, and medical insurance, while also providing a monthly allowance for personal expenses. Under a recent agreement between the Romanian Ministry of Education and Research and American Councils for International Education, the number of available spots for Romanian students could reach 70 for the 2027–2028 academic year.

Eligibility criteria include Romanian citizenship, being born between July 15, 2009, and July 15, 2012, and being in the 9th, 10th, or 11th grade during the 2026–2027 school year. Applicants must study English in high school, meet U.S. visa requirements, and must not have resided in the United States for more than three months in the last five years. The program is co-funded by the U.S. Department of State and the Romanian Government.
