FlexGanttFX released as open-source framework

Dirk Lemmerman has released FlexGanttFX, a resource-scheduling framework for generating Gantt charts, as open-source software under the GNU Affero General Public License (AGPL) after 15 years of development.

The move aims to increase code availability while addressing long-term project maintenance. By using the AGPL, companies that modify the library and use it over a network must make their modified source code publicly available. This licensing model may also support dual-licensing, allowing companies to obtain commercial licenses to avoid AGPL requirements.

Built on JavaFX, the framework supports both desktop and mobile applications. It utilizes a combination of Canvas rendering and standard JavaFX nodes to maintain high performance when rendering complex charts. The system is designed to handle various scales, from milliseconds to decades, and accounts for time zones, daylight-saving transitions, and working hours. The framework is applicable across several industries, including logistics, aviation, healthcare, and software development.
