FlexPower launches green energy supply for data centers
FlexPower has launched a specialized green electricity supply service for data centers, utilizing its own wind and solar energy portfolio. The offering allows operators to customize their procurement through a modular system including multi-year fixed prices, flexible market access, and both physical or virtual battery storage to mitigate price volatility.
Electricity represents a major operational cost for data centers, accounting for up to half of total operating expenses according to the German Datacenter Association. This cost pressure is expected to rise as AI and cloud applications drive higher consumption. Furthermore, German energy efficiency laws require operators to cover at least 50 percent of their electricity consumption with renewable energy, a quota set to increase to 100 percent by 2027.
As AI development scales, the energy requirements for new data centers are shifting from megawatts to gigawatts, creating a global competition for available power capacity. This surge in demand is positioning energy providers and specialized suppliers as critical players in the AI infrastructure boom.
