Flight 93 National Memorial marks 25th anniversary of 9/11 attacks

Thousands of people gathered at the Flight 93 National Memorial in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, to mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. Ceremonies honored the 40 passengers and crew members of United Airlines Flight 93 who died while attempting to prevent the hijacked aircraft from reaching the U.S. Capitol.

During the memorial events, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum noted that the actions of those aboard the flight prevented a different outcome for the world. Tributes included the reading of names, musical performances, and artistic displays.

In preparation for the anniversary, the National Park Service has implemented several site enhancements funded by a $2.3 million anonymous donation. These projects include the display of new artifacts from the park’s collection, the restoration of the Memorial Plaza, and technical upgrades to the Tower of Voices to improve the visitor experience.
