Flipboard acquires Graze to expand social feed monetization

Flipboard has acquired Graze, a Portland-based startup that enables users to build, customize, and monetize curated social feeds without writing code. Graze primarily operates on the AT Protocol, including the Bluesky network, and has delivered over 41 billion posts to approximately 12 million users in the 21 months since its launch.

The acquisition aims to integrate Graze’s feed-building and advertising technology with Flipboard’s existing products, such as its Surf browser. Graze utilizes a contextual advertising model that places ads based on the subject matter of a feed rather than individual user tracking. Under this model, creators can decide which ads appear and receive 70% of the resulting revenue.

Following the deal, Graze co-founder Devin Gaffney and engineer Nick Gerakines will join Flipboard. The company plans to expand Graze’s capabilities beyond Bluesky to other services running on the AT Protocol.
