Flipelô opens 10th edition in Salvador, launches Myriam Fraga children's book

The 10th edition of the Festa Literária Internacional do Pelourinho (Flipelô) began on 5 May in Salvador’s historic centre. More than 150 public and private venues will host the free programme, which organisers expect to draw about 250 000 visitors. The opening night featured a free concert by singer‑songwriter Bellô Veloso and a theatrical tribute to poet Myriam Fraga, the festival’s founder.

A special highlight is the launch of an unpublished children’s poetry book, Tem Cardume no Meu Aquário, written by Myriam Fraga and illustrated by visual artist Leo Dantas. The book, dedicated to Fraga’s great‑granddaughter Marina, includes QR‑code audio links and a space for children to create their own characters. The presentation is scheduled for Saturday, 8 May, at 10:30 a.m. in the Mabel Velloso Children’s Space, Praça das Artes.

Additional activities linked to Flipelô include the inauguration of the new Caixa Cultural unit in the Pelourinho, showcasing the exhibition “3 Obás de Xangô” that celebrates Afro‑Brazilian culture and the legacies of Jorge Amado, Dorival Caymmi and Carybé. The city’s metro system is providing free vans between Campo da Pólvora station and the Pelourinho, and the Casa do Benin museum reopened with special programming during the festival.
