Félix Sánchez's candidacy for Algeria coach faces setback

The search for a new head coach for the Algerian national football team has faced a significant setback regarding frontrunner Félix Sánchez. Initially considered the primary candidate to succeed Vladimir Petkovic, Sánchez's position has been weakened following reports of parallel negotiations.

While Sánchez, a former FC Barcelona academy coach and 2019 Asian Cup winner with Qatar, was widely favored due to his technical expertise and international experience, the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has reportedly reconsidered his candidacy. This shift follows reports that Sánchez engaged in negotiations with South Korea on the same day a tentative agreement was reached with Algeria.

Beyond the negotiation issues, doubts have surfaced regarding his management style. Some players who worked with him in Qatar have described him as competent but rigid in human management. Additionally, his lack of experience with African football remains a point of concern for the federation as they look toward the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
