Félix Tshisekedi addresses security and constitutional debate in DRC
President Félix Tshisekedi met with members of the Union Sacrée majority to discuss national security, an upcoming national dialogue, and potential constitutional changes. Addressing the political crisis following Joseph Kabila’s move toward rebellion, Tshisekedi asserted that the situation remains under control and called for national unity against external aggression.
Regarding the country's legal framework, Tshisekedi reportedly stated, “This Constitution, I do not like it, and you know it,” leaving the responsibility for any potential revisions to the legislature. He indicated that if the majority refuses to change the constitution, he would step down in 2028.
The upcoming national dialogue is expected to be supported by two facilitators from the African Union. Additionally, Prime Minister Judith Suminwa urged Congolese women to prepare concrete proposals regarding peace, justice, and social cohesion to ensure their active participation in these discussions.
