FlixBus expands summer routes and adds second electric coach on Lisbon‑Porto line in Portugal
FlixBus has boosted its summer service in Portugal, adding the largest increase in capacity to the Algarve region. Connections between Lisbon and key Algarve destinations rose 30% versus the pre‑summer period and 9.6% compared with the same week in 2025, with 270 daily departures covering the capital and the Faro district. The operator now serves more than 100 Portuguese destinations and runs close to 900 domestic daily services, its highest level since entering the market in 2017. FlixBus plans to reach 20 new interior locations by 2027 and has reintroduced seasonal direct routes from Sintra, Cascais and Almada to Albufeira and Faro, as well as new daytime and night services linking the Algarve with Andalusia.
In July, FlixBus Portugal launched a second Yutong battery‑electric coach on the 315‑km Lisbon‑Porto corridor, joining the first unit introduced in September 2024. Operating with partner AV Feirense and using charging infrastructure supplied by EDP at Sacavém, the coaches can travel up to 400 km on a charge and require about 2 h 45 min for a full recharge. Together the two electric coaches are expected to avoid roughly 300 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year. The first coach logged over 215,000 km without direct emissions during its first year, operating on 352 of 365 days.
