Fælledby construction errors force demolition of 172 homes

Two nearly completed residential buildings in the new Fælledby district on Amager Fælled must be demolished due to massive construction errors. A technical investigation conducted by Sweco determined that the structures, identified as blocks C4 and C6, are total losses and cannot be made legal or safe for habitation.

The errors primarily involve the load-bearing structures. The wooden modules used in construction are underdimensioned and lack sufficient load-bearing capacity. Additionally, investigators found that holes were drilled into beams under apartment floors in incorrect locations and steel welding was performed incorrectly deep within the structures.

The decision follows the bankruptcy of the original general contractor, Scandi Byg, in early 2025. Fælledby board chairman Henrik Steenstrup described the situation as ‘unfortunate’ for both the development and the buyers. The project involves 172 homes, with contracts already signed for 130 of them. These contracts will be canceled, and affected owners and tenants will be compensated.
