Flo Anthony, Pioneering Entertainment Journalist, Dies at 74

Flo Anthony, a trailblazing entertainment journalist and television personality, died on August 6, 2024 after a battle with cancer at age 74. Born on March 4, 1952 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, she graduated from Howard University and began her career as a publicist for boxing legends such as Muhammad Ali, Larry Holmes and Michael Spinks.

Anthony broke several barriers at the New York Post, becoming the first Black woman to work in its sports department and later the first Black woman in its entertainment and Page Six sections. She later wrote for the National Examiner’s “Eye on the Stars,” edited Black Noir and Black Elegance magazines, and hosted syndicated radio shows through her Dottie Media Group. Her television appearances included regular contributions to Inside Edition, Entertainment Tonight, CNN, MSNBC and E! Network’s “The Gossip Show.”

She was survived by her longtime partner, former Olympic boxing champion Michael Spinks, and is remembered for her influential column “Go with the Flo” and her role in shaping celebrity reporting for a generation of readers.
