Flood Falls trail cleanup removes 13,000 cubic feet of trash
Volunteers have completed a massive cleanup of the Flood Falls trail network in Hope, British Columbia, removing approximately 13,000 cubic feet of trash. The initiative was led by Ryan Smith of the Hope Community Cleanup Society.
Approximately 80 volunteers participated in the effort, which included Hope Mayor Victor Smith. The cleanup addressed issues caused by illegal dumping and abandoned homeless camps, which had created safety hazards on an emergency road used by BC Hydro.
Items removed from the area included eight trailers, two campers, four vehicles, a burned-out bus, and thousands of pounds of scrap metal. The project utilized 12 large dumpsters, with donations of bins and dumping costs provided by Trans Mountain, Emil Anderson, Ogilvie Mtn Holdings, and Abby Bins. Machine operators Wayne Furness and Ken Gulliman also contributed equipment and time to assist with the removal of bulk items.
