Flood victims to protest against Carlos Mazón in Alicante

Victims of the October 29, 2024, floods, which resulted in 232 deaths, along with social and labor organizations, have organized a protest in Alicante. This marks the first time the demonstration has moved outside the province of Valencia.

The protest targets Carlos Mazón, the former president of the Generalitat Valenciana and current PP deputy in Les Corts Valencianes, regarding his management of the disaster. Organizers, including spokesperson Anna Oliver, expressed that Mazón “feels immune” nearly two years after the tragedy.

Critics pointed to Mazón’s recent testimony before a Congressional commission investigating the flood management, where he claimed that the only power capable of judging his criminal responsibility had already exonerated him. Protesters also criticized the PP for not demanding he relinquish his seat in the regional parliament and noted that he maintains an office in Alicante where he reportedly spends more time than in the regional parliament.
