Flooding and road closures hit West Virginia counties
Heavy rainfall on Saturday night and Sunday morning caused significant flooding and road closures across West Virginia, impacting Randolph, Barbour, and Upshur counties. In Randolph County, US 219 near the Elkins Speedway in Kerens was closed due to high water, and floodwaters completely surrounded the Leading Creek Fire Department in the Leading Creek area.
In Barbour County, Route 57 and West Virginia Route 76 experienced temporary closures. Upshur County reported high water on Kesling Mill Road near Buckhannon. High winds also caused multiple trees to fall in the region.
The National Weather Service extended flood warnings for southeastern Barbour County and northeastern Randolph County through Monday morning, warning that flash flooding and severe thunderstorms remain possible.
