Flooding in Addu City affects over 70 homes

Heavy rainfall across the Maldives has caused significant flooding, particularly in Addu City. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reported that over 70 homes in the Feydhoo district have sustained flood damage. One residence, occupied by eight people, was rendered uninhabitable, forcing the occupants to move to temporary shelter.

In addition to Feydhoo, flooding has been reported in the Maradhoo district of Addu. Large areas of Fuvahmulah have also experienced flooding, though no specific home damage has been confirmed there yet. The Maldives National Defense Force, police, and local councils are working to drain floodwater and are using sandbags to protect homes, shops, and offices.

Weather alerts have been issued for several southern atolls, including Gaafu Alifu and Gaafu Dhaalu, forecasting heavy rain, thunderstorms, and wind gusts of up to 45 miles per hour. The Maldives Meteorological Service has advised residents to take safety precautions as adverse weather conditions persist.
