Floods cause significant damage in Madrigueras and Vilamartín

Severe flooding has caused extensive damage across different regions of Spain. In Madrigueras, a flash flood on October 2 transformed streets into rivers, affecting approximately 80% of the town's streets and entering 14 different locations. The incident resulted in significant material damage and the death of a 102-year-old resident. Local authorities have prioritized reopening schools to restore normalcy, though some facilities have been relocated due to damage.

In Vilamartín de Valdeorras, recent storms on October 6 have caused further destruction, prompting calls for urgent action. The mayor, Sherezade Núñez, warned that repairing infrastructure is insufficient without an integral plan to restore forest terrain and hydrological stability, especially following recent wildfires. The recurring nature of these floods, which continue to damage recently repaired water catchment systems, highlights the growing vulnerability of the area.
