The Sixth Panel of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) has unanimously upheld the 50-year prison sentence for former deputy Flordelis dos Santos de Souza. The conviction pertains to the 2019 shooting death of her husband, Pastor Anderson do Carmo, in Niterói.
Flordelis was found guilty of triple qualified homicide, attempted double qualified homicide, armed criminal association, and the use of false documents. Prosecutors argued the assassination was planned due to disputes over family financial control and internal conflicts.
Additionally, the STJ maintained a decision from the Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice (TJRJ) to annul the acquittal of three other defendants: Rayane dos Santos Oliveira (Flordelis’s biological granddaughter), and Marzy Teixeira da Silva and André Luiz de Oliveira (her adopted children). The court ruled that the previous jury decision was contrary to the evidence presented, meaning these three individuals will face a new trial before a jury.
