Florence Airport expansion: Municipalities file technical appeal
Five Italian municipalities—Campi Bisenzio, Sesto Fiorentino, Calenzano, Carmignano, and Poggio a Caiano—have filed additional technical documentation with the TAR della Toscana regarding their ongoing appeal against the Florence Airport development project.
The municipalities argue that the expansion project presents severe environmental, urban planning, and administrative legitimacy issues. They claim the current proposal replicates the same flaws and limitations found in previous versions that were already rejected by the judiciary.
The group also expressed regret that the Municipality of Prato decided not to join the legal proceedings, despite the local council and mayor previously voicing opposition to the new runway. The five municipalities stated they remain committed to protecting local community interests against the significant impacts the transformation would have on the plain.
