Florence approves Fiorentina's Stadio Franchi redevelopment proposal
The Florence City Council has declared the Fiorentina football club's proposal for the Stadio Franchi to be of “public interest.” The project financing plan involves the club managing the Campo di Marte facility for 60 years. The proposal includes an initial investment of 101 million euros to complete construction works and stadium outfitting. Under this arrangement, the concessionaire would assume all ordinary and extraordinary maintenance and management costs, while the lease fee charged to Fiorentina would be reduced.
Economic feasibility was verified by the Politecnico di Milano, which compared the proposal against municipal and alternative private management models. Mayor Sara Funaro noted that while this is a significant step, further stages including a definitive proposal and a subsequent tender process remain.
Separately, regarding matchday operations, over 22,000 spectators are expected for the upcoming Fiorentina-Como match at the Stadio Franchi. However, organized supporters, specifically the Curva Fiesole, have announced a boycott of the upcoming away match against Inter at San Siro, protesting ticket prices and sales methods in the away sectors.
