Florence begins planting 35 trees in Piazza Beccaria

Planting operations have commenced in Florence's Piazza Beccaria as part of the redevelopment project linked to the new tramway line for Bagno a Ripoli. The initiative aims to transform the area from a transit roundabout into a more livable, green social space.

A total of 35 new trees are being introduced, including 25 mulberry trees and 10 plane trees. These will complement existing magnolia and beech trees that were preserved during construction. The project also includes the installation of new fountains and expanded green areas, following a decision to depave approximately 550 square meters near the city gate and the State Archives.

Mayor Sara Funaro stated that the intervention seeks to balance historical preservation with modern urban needs, specifically aiming to combat the heat island effect and improve summer comfort for residents.
