Florence Court orders €30,000 compensation for cemetery fall
The Court of Florence has ordered the Venerabile Misericordia, the owner and manager of the Soffiano cemetery, to pay over €30,000 in compensation to a 69-year-old woman. The ruling follows an incident on May 3, 2021, where the woman tripped on protruding wooden planks left in a corridor during renovation work.
The fall resulted in fractures to her hip and left femur, requiring surgery at San Giovanni di Dio hospital. Judge Liliana Anselmo de Vivo noted that the planks created a dangerous obstacle and emphasized the total absence of warning signs, safety tape, or barriers to prevent access to the construction area.
While the court held the management responsible for the safety of the premises, it attributed 30% contributory negligence to the pensioner.
