Florence court orders Italian Ministry of Health to compensate vaccine injury victim

A civil court in Florence has ordered the Italian Ministry of Health to provide bimonthly compensation to a woman who developed a neurological syndrome following two doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine in early 2021. The ruling, issued on September 18, grants the individual approximately 1,000 euros every two months for permanent and irreversible health damage.

The decision was based on a medico-legal expert report which concluded that it was ‘more probable than not’ that the vaccinations caused the condition, noting the absence of any other identifiable causes. The judge clarified that absolute scientific certainty is not required for compensation; instead, the legal standard of ‘greater probability’ was met.

Despite objections from the State Attorney's Office, the court upheld the existing expert findings and declined requests for a new assessment. This verdict follows similar rulings by courts in Asti and Agrigento regarding neurological issues following COVID-19 vaccinations.
