Florence Deltor Jean Joseph becomes first female leader of Haitian Voodoo
Florence Deltor Jean Joseph has been officially installed as the new Ati of the National Confederation of Haitian Voodoo (KNVA) in Limonade, Haiti. This marks a historic milestone, as she is the first woman to hold the highest position within the confederation.
Following an interim period led by Prospère Louidor, Joseph was elected to a seven-year term. During her inauguration, she called for unity among the various factions of the Voodoo community and emphasized the importance of preserving cultural and spiritual traditions for younger generations.
In support of her leadership, legal experts such as Wilner Charles, dean of the Bar Association, have advocated for integrating Voodoo values and history into the national educational system to help Haitian students better understand their cultural roots. Joseph also paid tribute to the historical figures who utilized Voodoo during Haiti's struggle for independence.
