Florence hosts art exhibitions on botanical themes and Medici history

Florence is hosting two distinct cultural exhibitions in September 2026. At Chiasso Perduto, Colombian artist Evelyn Tovar Toro presents a site-specific installation exploring ruderal plants—species that grow in disturbed human environments like cracks in walls or rooftops. Her work focuses on the caper and artemisia plants, using them to examine the relationship between territory, human history, and botanical classification through visual transformations of language and roots.

Simultaneously, Villa La Quiete is reopening after the summer break with an exhibition titled ‘The Birth of the Garden of Anna Maria Luisa, the last de’ Medici’. The showcase features drawings and documents from the Villa La Quiete Archive, detailing the creation of the Medici gardens. The exhibition includes guided tours of the Electress’s frescoed apartments and the gardens, covering topics such as the Medici legacy, historical garden tools, and restoration documents.
