Florence joins manifesto opposing foreign student quotas in schools

Florence has officially joined a manifesto opposing the implementation of a 30% cap on foreign students in classrooms. The initiative, which originated in Bologna, argues against using percentage thresholds to manage school demographics.

Benedetta Albanese, Florence's Councilor for Education, stated that schools should not be places of exclusion or division. She emphasized that the focus should remain on addressing real needs through effective tools, such as municipal literacy centers and linguistic competency assessments, rather than setting fixed quotas.

In response to the debate, several schools in Florence and its surrounding province have displayed banners promoting inclusion, with messages such as ‘Here no one is a stranger’ and ‘School is open to all’.
