Florence Mayor seeks limits on short-term rentals amid housing concerns
Florence Mayor Sara Funaro has highlighted the growing impact of short-term rentals on the city, noting that approximately 26% of owners managing these properties do not reside in Florence.
Funaro pointed to a significant imbalance in the local housing market, stating that the city has recorded 17,000 short-term rentals compared to only 8,000 public housing units. This disparity has prompted the administration to advocate for stricter regulations and limits on tourist accommodations, similar to those applied to hotels and other hospitality structures.
The Mayor emphasized that once the current regional law moratorium ends in two years, the city will implement a new regulation featuring sustainable numbers and measures. A key priority for the administration is to protect small property owners who use second homes to supplement their income, while ensuring the city remains habitable for residents.
