Florence Mayor Sara Funaro Defends Montedomini and Announces New Regulation

Mayor Sara Funaro of Florence responded to accusations that the public‑service entity Montedomini had improperly used municipal property for short‑term tourist rentals. She rejected claims of “falsehoods and instrumentalisation”, stating that the apartments involved were rented under the legal framework that existed before the city imposed a ban on new short‑term rentals. Funaro said Montedomini will pursue legal action regarding a request for a National Identification Code for a property on Via Guelfa.

The mayor announced that the municipality will work with Montedomini in the coming weeks to draft a new regulation for the entity’s real‑estate assets, aiming to make it “the most innovative in Italy”. The proposed rules will clarify future lease contracts and align them with the city’s housing policies. Opposition parties have called for an inquiry, and the public prosecutor has opened an investigation, but the mayor emphasized that the new regulation will prevent further interpretative disputes.
