Florence Pugh to star in Netflix adaptation of East of Eden

Netflix is set to release a new adaptation of John Steinbeck’s novel ‘East of Eden’ as a seven-episode miniseries. Starring Florence Pugh, who also serves as an executive producer, the production follows the complex life of Cathy Ames, a central antiheroine.

Set in California’s Salinas Valley, the drama spans several decades, from the American Civil War through World War I. The narrative explores the interconnected lives of the Trask and Hamilton families, focusing on themes of morality, identity, and the struggle between good and evil.

Created by Zoe Kazan and Jeb Stuart, this version aims to provide a more extensive exploration of the original text than previous adaptations. Kazan, the granddaughter of director Elia Kazan, intends to delve deeper into multiple generations of the families involved. The cast includes Christopher Abbott, Mike Faist, Tracy Letts, Joseph Zada, and Joe Anders.
