Flores earthquake prompts maritime safety measures by ASDP
Following a magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck the waters north of Flores in Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) on Saturday, August 15, 2026, PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) has implemented measured operational steps to ensure safety.
ASDP President Director Heru Widodo stated that the safety of vessels, ports, passengers, and personnel is the company's top priority. As a mitigation measure, several ships were directed to seek shelter in safe locations. The company is coordinating with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and other stakeholders to monitor maritime conditions before resuming normal services.
BMKG ended the tsunami early warning at 07:30 WIB after monitoring showed no significant sea-level rise. However, the agency recorded 235 aftershocks with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 6.2 as of 14:00 WIB, prompting calls for continued vigilance.
