Florian Lipowitz completes cycling comeback at Giro della Toscana
German cyclist Florian Lipowitz has completed his first major competitive comeback at the Giro della Toscana, exactly 50 days after suffering a collarbone fracture during a time trial at the Tour de France. During the 189.4-kilometer race in Pontedera, the 25-year-old Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe rider performed significant lead-out work for his team, helping teammate Giulio Pellizzari secure the victory.
Lipowitz intends to use a series of four races in Italy to regain competitive form. This series serves as a test to determine if he will be cleared to compete in the upcoming World Championships in Montreal, scheduled for late September. While his performance was strong, his team has not yet officially authorized his participation in the World Championships.
German national coach Jens Zemke noted that while data suggests a positive recovery, the focus remains on how Lipowitz manages the physical and mental demands of returning to high-level racing.
