Florian Maurice reveals he did not support France during 1998 World Cup
Former French striker Florian Maurice has revealed that he did not support the France national team during their 1998 World Cup victory. Maurice, who was considered a strong candidate for the squad's starting striker position during the 1997-1998 season, expressed regret over being excluded from the tournament.
After a successful period with Olympique Lyonnais and a strong start with Paris Saint-Germain, where he scored seven goals in twelve matches, Maurice's form declined, leading coach Aimé Jacquet to select Stéphane Guivarc’h instead. Maurice admitted in the ‘Podcast des légendes’ that while he watched the final from Biarritz with Daniel Bravo, he did not feel like a supporter of the team at that time, stating, ‘I don’t want them to win.’
