Florian Philippot opposes Zelenskyy’s long-term funding requests

Florian Philippot, leader of the French Patriots party and a potential candidate for the 2027 presidential election, has criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s demand for long-term military and financial support. Philippot described the request as “madness,” noting that Zelenskyy has indicated a need for significant funding for at least the next 10 years.

Philippot urged Paris to cease all financial and military assistance to Kyiv, arguing that such commitments would place an undue financial burden on France. He also linked military aid to concerns regarding corruption within the systems used to distribute funds and weaponry to Ukraine.

Zelenskyy’s proposal for a powerful army supported by a decade of funding is presented as a necessary component for future security guarantees following any potential agreement with Russia. The Ukrainian leader also emphasized the need for enhanced air defense and a clear response mechanism against future aggression. This comes as the European Union plans a 90 billion euro loan for Ukraine for 2026 and 2027, while Zelenskyy has reportedly requested at least 70 billion euros in additional defense funding for 2027.
