Florian Wellbrock wins 10 km open water race in Long Beach
German swimmer Florian Wellbrock won the men’s 10 km open water race at the 2026 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Long Beach, California. This victory follows his recent performance at the European Aquatics Championships in Paris, where he secured three gold medals.
Wellbrock completed the course with a time of 1:49.51. Mexico’s Paulo Strehlke Delgado took second place with a time of 1:49.58, followed by Italy’s Dario Verani in third at 1:50.01. The race featured a tightly bunched lead pack competing on a six-loop flat-water course.
Wellbrock, who traveled directly from Paris to Los Angeles to compete, noted that the event served as a way to gain “Olympiafeeling” for the 2028 Olympic Games.
