Florianópolis: Children steal new Omoda 5 hybrid SUV

Three children, aged 10, 11, and 12, stole a brand-new Omoda 5 hybrid SUV in Florianópolis, Brazil. The vehicle, which was being transported by a car carrier and was awaiting delivery to a dealership, had its spare key inside, allowing the group to access and drive it.

The 12-year-old drove the vehicle at high speeds through the city, eventually colliding with a parked motorcycle in the Estreito neighborhood. Bystanders and delivery workers followed the car until it stopped, at which point the Military Police were called. No injuries were reported during the incident.

The police have registered the case as an infraction analogous to theft. Under the Statute of the Child and Adolescent (ECA), the 12-year-old may face socio-educational measures, while the younger children will be subject to protective measures through the Guardianship Council.
