Florianópolis finishes bridge widening and road revitalization on Rua Laurindo José de Souza
The municipality of Florianópolis completed a comprehensive upgrade of Rua Laurindo José de Souza, the main road to the Fortaleza da Barra da Lagoa, on 8 July. A deteriorated concrete bridge was replaced with a new 4‑metre‑long, 10‑metre‑wide structure that allows two‑way traffic and includes pedestrian sidewalks. The new bridge sits half a metre higher and boosts water flow capacity under the span by more than 50%, reducing flood risk during heavy rains. The entire road was resurfaced with uniform paver blocks, and drainage and accessibility improvements were added. The project, carried out by AMVT Construções Ltda – EPP, cost R$ 3.2 million and aims to provide the local community and tourists with traffic safety comparable to other main avenues on the island.
