Florianópolis invests R$ 2 million in domestic violence shelter
The City of Florianópolis has formalized the creation of a 24-hour emergency shelter for women victims of domestic and family violence. The project, estimated to cost approximately R$ 2 million, will be implemented by the NGO FGA (Für Gott Arbeit).
The facility is designed to provide temporary housing for up to 40 women aged 18 or older, who may be accompanied by children or minor dependents. The shelter will operate in a secure, confidential location to protect individuals facing immediate death threats or grave risks to their physical and psychological integrity.
Scheduled to begin operations in August, the initiative includes specialized technical support and coordination with the justice system, public security agencies, and social assistance networks. This measure comes amid data from the Observatory of Violence Against Women in Santa Catarina, which reported 2,208 domestic violence occurrences in Florianópolis in 2026.
