Florianópolis launches construction material price inspections
The Florianópolis City Hall, through its municipal consumer protection agency (Procon), has launched an inspection operation to monitor the prices of construction materials. This action follows recent extreme weather events in the capital that have left many families in need of home repairs.
To prevent unjustified price hikes, notified businesses must provide pricing data from the previous 15 days alongside current rates. They are also required to present purchase invoices and documentation to justify any price adjustments. The inspection covers a wide range of essential goods, including cement, tiles, roofing, wood, sand, and water tanks.
Mayor Topázio Neto stated that the municipality intends to protect citizens during this recovery period. Companies found to be increasing prices without valid economic justification—such as changes in transport costs or supplier prices—may face administrative processes, fines, and other legal sanctions.
