Florianópolis Procon warns of extreme medication price variations
A survey conducted by Procon Municipal de Florianópolis has revealed significant price discrepancies for essential medications in the city. Consumers may pay up to 13 times more for the same drug if they do not research prices before purchasing.
The study focused on medications for diabetes, hypertension, and cholesterol across six pharmacies. The largest variation was found in Glibenclamida 5 mg, used for diabetes, which saw prices ranging from R$ 1.99 to R$ 26.13, a difference of 1,213%. Other notable variations included Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg, with a 976.67% difference, and Atorvastatin calcium 10 mg, which showed a 968.34% price gap.
Tiago Silva, director of Procon Municipal de Florianópolis, emphasized that these are not luxury goods but essential medicines required monthly by many. He urged consumers, particularly the elderly and those with chronic illnesses, to compare active ingredients, dosages, and presentations to ensure they are receiving equivalent products and protecting their household budgets.
