Florida Alligator Attack Kills Construction Foreman Brittany Clark

On June 28, 2024, 31‑year‑old Brittany Clark was fatally attacked by a nearly four‑metre alligator while swimming in the Econlockhatchee River within the Little Big Econ State Forest in Seminole County, Florida. Clark, a heavy‑construction equipment foreman, suffered near‑complete traumatic amputations of her left arm at the shoulder and her right forearm, along with bite marks on her left clavicle and shoulder blade. Her boyfriend, Chance Allison, tried to pull her free as the animal latched onto her, but emergency responders could not save her.

An autopsy conducted by Associate Medical Examiner Jenaye L. Mack ruled the death an accident caused by multiple blunt‑force injuries. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission later euthanized two alligators from the river and DNA testing linked the larger specimen to the attack. The agency notes that alligator attacks on humans are rare, averaging about eight unprovoked bites annually and 26 fatalities since 1948.
