Florida Alligator Attack Leaves 11-Year-Old Boy Missing Hand

On June 27, 2026, at the Nelson Fish Camp in Umatilla, Marion County, Florida, 11‑year‑old Brodie Terry was fishing with his father when a 2.6‑metre alligator suddenly lunged at him. The reptile seized the boy’s hand, and as his father tried to pry the jaws apart, the animal performed a “death roll,” tearing the hand from the wrist. Wildlife officials arrived quickly, shot the alligator, and the injured child was rushed to a hospital where doctors were unable to save the hand, resulting in amputation at the wrist.

Brodie, a resident of Pennsylvania, has been supported by a GoFundMe campaign that has raised roughly $26,300 for medical expenses. Florida wildlife authorities used the incident to remind the public to keep a safe distance from alligators, avoid feeding them, and stay out of restricted water areas.
