Florida Attorney General Sues OpenAI Over Alleged User‑Safety Violations

The suit claims OpenAI marketed ChatGPT as a safe and reliable product while downplaying its potential for error and misinformation, and it points to promotional claims that the system could assist farmers and small businesses without disclosing its limitations. The filing also references the 2025 Florida State University shooting, stating that the suspect used ChatGPT to plan the attack, and notes that Florida prosecutors opened an investigation into the role of the AI tool in April. The lawsuit seeks monetary damages and an injunction requiring OpenAI to change its practices, but it does not involve criminal charges. OpenAI has not yet responded to the complaint. The case adds to a growing number of civil actions in the United States targeting artificial‑intelligence platforms, though no court has yet held an AI company legally responsible for its products.
