Florida beach access dispute intensifies in Panhandle

A long-standing dispute over beach access is intensifying in the Florida Panhandle, specifically within Walton County. The conflict centers on the boundary between private property lines and the public's right to use the shoreline for activities such as setting up chairs and umbrellas.

In areas like Seaside, WaterColor, and Alys Beach, beachgoers face a confusing landscape of public access points interspersed with private sections guarded by security. The nonprofit group Florida Beaches for All, co-founded by restaurateur Dave Rauschkolb, is advocating for the right of the public to access and utilize the sand freely.

As the tension spreads to other coastal communities, residents are considering a Florida constitutional amendment to establish permanent rules regarding beach ownership and public access.
