Florida City mother arrested for manslaughter after 5-year-old's death
Ashley Marie Hosendove, 32, has been arrested and charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child and culpable negligence of a firearm within easy access of a minor following the death of her 5-year-old daughter, Ja’Nova Parks.
The incident occurred on June 10 in Florida City, when a firearm discharged inside the family home. The victim was shot in the torso and later died at HCA Florida Kendall Hospital after being airlifted from Baptist Health Homestead Hospital. Investigations by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office revealed that Hosendove had maintained the weapon in unsafe conditions, including keeping a round in the chamber and using a firearm with a malfunctioning safety mechanism.
At the time of the shooting, a 4-year-old boy, who reportedly saw the weapon a week prior, and two other adults were also present in the home. Hosendove’s attorney stated the weapon was stored in a waist bag inside a closet. She is currently being held without bond.
