Florida Departmental Board approves land expropriation

The Florida Departmental Board in Uruguay has authorized the Intendencia de Florida to proceed with the expropriation of a property located at the corner of 18 de Julio and Beltrán. The decision, passed with a 29-to-1 vote, aims to integrate the land into the municipality's holdings. The debate highlighted significant friction regarding property rights and administrative transparency.

Opposition members criticized the move, with Jodami Martínez arguing that the Intendencia is acting arbitrarily and failing to respect constitutional property rights. Additionally, Juan Augusto Corujo raised concerns regarding technicians entering private property without authorization. The property in question is currently an abandoned house; representative Fernando Schiavoni, who recused himself from the vote due to a direct link to the estate, noted that while the property is for sale, legal documentation regarding the succession is still being finalized.

Separately, Juan Francisco Correa, a representative for Lista 6262, has emphasized his focus on community engagement and territorial work within the Florida Departmental Board. Correa has been active in commissions related to health, the environment, drugs, and disability, advocating for a legislative role that extends beyond formal sessions to include direct communication with residents.
