Florida District 27: Salazar and Rodríguez clash over immigration

Republican Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar is seeking reelection in Florida’s 27th District against Democrat Eliott Rodríguez. The race has tightened recently amid shifting political dynamics.

Immigration serves as a central issue in the contest. Rodríguez has criticized Salazar for her support of government deportation agendas, while proposing the restoration of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians and Syrians. Salazar, conversely, has called on Donald Trump to implement comprehensive immigration reform and continues to defend her Dignity Act.

The district is demographically significant for this debate, as 54.3% of residents were born outside the United States, with approximately 91% of those residents originating from Latin America. In terms of campaign finance, Salazar leads with over $1.9 million, compared to $661,000 for Rodríguez.
