Florida driver crashes into school bus carrying 19 children while fleeing police
A 23-year-old driver, Qahiem Williams, is facing multiple charges after a high-speed pursuit led to a head-on collision with a school bus in Sumter County, Florida. The incident occurred Tuesday morning near The Villages Intermediate Center.
According to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, the sequence began when a deputy attempted to pull Williams over for speeding. Williams allegedly fled the traffic stop, sideswiping two vehicles at a traffic light, which damaged his vehicle's axle. This damage contributed to a head-on collision with a school bus carrying 19 children on County Road 103. All 19 students were reported unharmed.
Following the crash, Williams allegedly abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot. A deputy pursued and apprehended him near a Walmart. Williams faces several charges, including fleeing or eluding, driving with a suspended license, possession of marijuana, leaving the scene of a crash, and resisting an officer.
