Florida driver database breached by cybercriminals

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) is investigating a cyberattack on its Driver and Vehicle Information Database (DAVID). The breach occurred after attackers exploited credentials from a Plant City Police Department employee that were improperly stored on a personal electronic device.

The cybercriminal group ShinyHunters claimed responsibility for the attack, alleging they acquired over 200,000 driver records. To substantiate their claim, the group posted a screenshot purportedly showing the driver’s license record of the late Jeffrey Epstein, including his Social Security number and vehicle data. The authenticity of this screenshot has not been independently verified.

While the FLHSMV stated the breach has been contained and authorities are investigating, the agency has not yet confirmed the exact number of affected individuals or the specific types of data accessed. Following the agency's public acknowledgment of the incident, ShinyHunters removed references to Florida from its leak site, though it remains unclear if this was due to a negotiation or other factors.
