Florida faces heavy rain and flooding risks amid tropical moisture

South and Central Florida are experiencing a period of unsettled weather characterized by deep tropical moisture and frequent thunderstorms. In South Florida, heavy downpours and localized flooding are expected, particularly in low-lying and poor-drainage areas. Rainfall amounts could reach 2–4 inches in some locations, with a marginal risk for excessive rainfall in East Coast metro areas.

In Central Florida, high humidity and heat index values between 100°F and 104°F are expected before afternoon storms provide cooling. While rain chances remain elevated through early next week, a ridge of high pressure is forecast to bring drier air by Thursday.

In the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Fay has formed but is expected to weaken as it moves into an environment with high wind shear. Currently, Fay is moving slowly toward the south-southeast with maximum sustained winds of 65 mph, and no immediate coastal hazards or land impacts are reported.
