Florida Gators receiver Vernell Brown III nears return from knee injury

Florida Gators head coach Jon Sumrall provided an optimistic update regarding star receiver Vernell Brown III following a knee injury sustained during the team’s victory over Mississippi. An MRI confirmed that Brown III suffered the “lowest-grade strain you could get,” with no long-term damage reported. While a specific timeline for his return has not been established, his availability for the upcoming game against No. 25 Missouri will depend on his pain tolerance and confidence.

Brown III currently leads the eighth-ranked Gators with 17 receptions for 271 yards and two touchdowns. The team also reported updates on other key players. Receiver Bailey Stockton, who suffered a back injury during the previous game, was described by Sumrall as having nothing “structurally wrong,” though he may be limited in practice this week. Additionally, Eric Singleton Jr. returned to action after missing two games due to an ankle sprain and is expected to be fully available for practice this week. Cornerback Dijon Johnson is also managing a minor ankle issue.
